Our setup process consists of two stages, each requiring specific actions to be completed. Stage one involves adding the MDinteractive FHIR app to your FHIR API eClinical module, followed by stage two, which entails choosing the group of patients to be shared with MDinteractive using bulk FHIR. Completing both stages is necessary for full setup and functionality.
Stage one
From the Admin band, click the Product Activation icon.
EHR users need to activate FHIR on eclinical. It's under product activation, listed as FHIR APIs. If it's not showing on their product activation list, they may have to ask their eclinical Support and Maintenance contact (SAM) to add it so that they can activate it.
Then go to eclinical FHIR App gallery and choose to 'Set up' "Backend/Bulk Access Apps':
Enter the activation code c746181b00f94974 on 'Add new app":

Click 'Not Applicable/Unknown':
After the eClinical user adds the MDinteractive app, your screen appears as follows:

After adding the MDinteractive FHIR App, please email support@mdinteractive.com to request the App to be activated on MDinteractive side.
Stage two
After MDinteractive activates the eClinicalWorks user, the app is displayed with Activate button on the EMR. eClinicalWorks user will have to click on the Activate button to enable the app. Path: Admin > Product Activation > FHIR APIs > Bulk/Backend Apps
After activation, users will need to select or create registry groups to share with MDinteractive. Registry groups, or patient cohorts, are groups of patients who meet specific clinical conditions established by a practice—for example, all patients with an encounter between January 1 and March 30. These groups are utilized by the MDinteractive bulk/backend FHIR application to receive data from the eClinicalWorks EMR.
Creating a Group for Bulk/Backend Applications
Path: Main Menu > Registry > Registry
Groups can be created using the Registry module in the EMR:
To create a group:
1. On the Registry screen, leave all filters as they are and click “Run New.” Please do not add any additional filters or criteria, as this may limit the group to a smaller subset of patients.
2. Click "Run New" and then Save Queries button:

3. A confirmation pop-up message displays. Click OK on the confirmation pop-up message:

4. On the Save Registry Query Report window, enter a clear report description in the Report Criteria field. In the Report Criteria box, name the report something specific and descriptive, such as “FHIR Bulk Group – All Patients.” Please avoid vague names like “Test Group,” as clear naming helps identify the group’s purpose for bulk/backend FHIR access.
5. Check the Save the query as a group to use with the backend/bulk access apps box.
6. Click OK to save the reports as a group:
The report is assigned an auto-generated group ID that displays on the Manage Groups window.
Note: For more information about creating queries, refer to the V11 EMR User Guide - General(Browser) on the my.eclinicalworks.com Customer Portal
Enabling a Group for Bulk/Backend Applications
Path: Admin > Product Activation > FHIR APIs > Bulk/Backend Apps
To enable a group:
1. Navigate to the Bulk/Backend Apps gallery.
2. Click the Manage Groups button on the app tile to be enabled:

3. Select the required group from the Available Groups list and click the right caret to move the selection to the Enabled Groups list:

Once the group is enabled for the app, the app can access the data for all patients who belong to that group. The apps can access data within the approved scope of the application.
Reviewing/Updating a Group for Bulk/Backend Applications
Path: Main menu > Registry > Registry > Saved Reports
To review/update a group:
1. On the Registry window, click the Saved Reports tab.
2. Click the ellipses button and select a report:

3. Click the Run Saved Report button:

Run Saved Report - Confirmation pop-up message displays.
4. Click OK on the confirmation pop-up to update and review the list of patients:

The group data is updated when the report is run, and the third-party application has access to the patient data.
